Cypress CA has changed its name many times depending on what locals wanted to promote about their home. In the earliest days of settlement, it was known as Waterville due to the many artesian wells that could be found here. In the 1950s, Cypress CA was incorporated as Dairy City by local dairy farmers who wanted to preserve their rural way of life. But this name only lasted about a year before locals voted to take the current name of Cypress CA in recognition of the beautiful cypress trees near the historic schoolhouse.
