We are honored to care for those who have served. Acacia’s hospice care for veterans is respectful, culturally aware, and coordinated with VA resources when appropriate. We review military history with sensitivity, recognize service-related needs, and connect families with benefits and Veteran-to-Veteran companions. Our approach is patient first and in this together, ensuring support for both the veteran and loved ones.
Veteran-Focused Hospice Support
- Military History Review. Understanding service era, exposures, and experiences that may influence physical and emotional care.
- Benefits Coordination. Guidance on VA programs, survivor resources, and funeral honors; collaboration with VA providers as requested.
- Veteran-To-Veteran Volunteers. Peer companionship that builds trust and reduces isolation.
- Rituals & Honors. Flag presentations, certificates of appreciation, and moments of recognition at the family’s request.
- Family Education. Practical tools for sleep, anxiety, and caregiver stress; links to community and veteran organizations.
VA Benefits & Community Resources
With permission, we coordinate with VA providers and community organizations to explore what may apply: caregiver support, equipment, respite options, survivor benefits, or memorial honors. We communicate with honesty and transparency about what is available and how to access it.
- Eligibility. Veterans who are enrolled in VA care (or exempt from enrollment but otherwise eligible for VA benefits) and have a life-limiting illness in its last phase may receive VA-covered hospice care.
- Coverage. The VA pays for hospice services for eligible Veterans. This includes the full hospice benefit when criteria are met.
- No Impact On Other Benefits. Choosing hospice does not reduce or disqualify a Veteran from any other VA benefits they are entitled to.
- Where Care Happens. Hospice can be provided wherever you live a private home, assisted living, a nursing facility, or another residence. Acacia Hospice & Palliative Services can serve as the hospice provider in these settings, coordinating closely with VA clinicians when you wish.
How We Coordinate With Your Team
Your RN and social worker communicate with VA clinicians (with permission), align the hospice plan of care, and make things happen quickly when needs change whether that means additional equipment, symptom management, or a transition across the four levels of hospice care.
